oh baby:: 22 weeks!

So, yes, halfway through this pregnancy, I'm changing up my bump update format. I'm having fun with some self-photography lately and I think Chris probably appreciates the break from his blog photographer role.

This week has been one of the more challenging ones of the pregnancy. Just a lot of adjusting to what my body can and can't do now (and can and can't fit!)

I did something to my back on Friday (while standing still at the counter making a pb and bacon sammie!) and it's been bothering me ever since. Most of my days have been spent on the couch with a hot rice sock. I think it's coming to the point when I need to make an appointment to get checked but sadly, our insurance doesn't cover chiropractors, who I hear do wonders for pregnant backs. So I'm not sure what good an appointment will do for me. Anyway, it's no fun not being able to move like I want to, but I suppose I best get used to that, huh?

Remember how I said I wanted to stay away from the maternity clothes? Yeah, I ate my words when I bought some maternity shorts at Old Navy this weekend. I caved, guys. And they're so comfy. I mean, I'm still most comfortable sprawled on the couch with my cut-offs unbuttoned and my tank pulled up over my belly (sounds real cute, huh?) but I'm glad to have some shorts that are actually appropriate for public exposure.

I've been killing the milk this week. We've never had to buy so much! A nice cold glass of chocolate milk (or three) and a piece of peanut butter toast are pretty much my go-to snack lately.

Oh, and shelf belly is here and it's awesome. So convenient.

Still working on a middle name. It's been fun having his first name all to ourselves for a little bit, but we're excited to share when that time comes.

More and more in love with this little thumper every day.

  2. You look great! I'm at week 27 and I've had pretty terrible back pain since week 20. I can't sit for more than 5 or 6 minutes without major continuous twinging - then I have to stand up or stretch. I haven't tried a hot rice sock - that may help! It's so fun to feel them kick, isn't it? :)

  3. Hope your back feels better:) That onesie is to-die for!! My husband and I are so not into the whole baby clothes with patterned airplanes all over them, so I've been trying to find ones like the one you have. So great and boyish:)

    1. oh girl, I'm still fighting it! The shorts I can deal with but just can't stand shoveling out loads of moolah for clothes I'll only wear for so many months/weeks. Though I do have a feeling once I already own some pieces, I'll break them out early for my next pregnancy as well! ;)

  5. go to a chiropractor! i'll admit, i'm biased because my husband is in chiropractic school but, seriously, you won't regret it! not only will it help your back but it'll do so many good things for your body & your baby. around here (atlanta), it's not usually super expensive like a doctor's visit and it's worth the money.

  7. I don't know what chiropractors cost over there, but where I live they're really not too spendy. The one nearby charges about $70-$80 for the first visit and after that he cuts the price in half. I highly recommend that you see one, they really are fantastic! You look adorable, by the way. ;)

  9. I totally used to sit with my t-shirts pulled up over my belly too. We were living in Hawaii actually when I was pregnant with Asher. I remember sitting in our 18th floor apartment with the wind blowing through our open windows, shirt up over my belly....crazy. Enjoy your last bit of time there. These are such precious and priceless times.

  12. After three pregnancies lemme tell ya - maternity clothes ARE a necessary evil! But...if you shop smart and keep an eye on deals at places like Old Navy, Target and Destination Maternity you can get good sales. I have added to my maternity wardrobe each pregnancy with little out of pocket expense! Lots of non-maternity stuff works too, dresses with leggings work well...I do that alot right now. :-) and if you have a group of friends nearby, and you're all rotating on and off with your pregnancies like I do with my friends l, you can really save $$ by sharing clothes with each other! It's a cheap way to have a bigger wardrobe. I've also done clothing swaps with my girlfriends to get rid of stuff I don't wear anymore and to get new (to me) stuff without breaking the bank! :-). Oh and another tip from preggo to preggo - go with the maternity leggings. You'll thank me later :-)

  13. :( so sorry to hear about your back...if it's normal back pain, something I've tried that has helped a ton is 1000 mg of calcium and 500 mg of magnesium...my friends midwife suggested it and hit helped out a ton!. I was actually trying on maternity jeans today...all the pairs I liked were to short for me though. I'm gonna keep looking tomorrow because I cannot fit into my normal clothes anymore! (oh, and i've been going through milk like crazy too!)

  15. You look adorable! Most chiropractors will work out a payment plan with patients, especially students and armed service members and their families. Its worth asking about! If you decide to see one, you'll definitely want to make sure he/she is certified to do the Webster technique *just in case* the babe ends up flipped around or breach toward the end ~ the success rates with getting babies to turn using this technique is amazing, in the 90%'s I think! Good luck! :)

  16. When I was pregnant, I saw a chiropractor. I was actually in Hawaii still and I can recommend him. He offers a great military discount and he's so worth it. Let me know and I'll pass along the name!

  18. maternity clothes are awesome and worth every penny(esp if you're hoping to do this again). so are prenatal massages. I hope you can invest in both soon and start feeling better in the inside and out :)
