oh baby:: 38 weeks!

Welp.

With less than two weeks until my due date, we're about as ready as we're gonna be for this kiddo.

I scrubbed the house (including window sills!) the other day.

The nursery is complete and I love it! (juicy details to come-- can't wait to share them!)

My hospital bag is packed.

We took a tour of the hospital last weekend and it feels really comfortable.

I have a stash of postpartum essentials in our bathroom cabinet.

The carseat and pack 'n' play are on standby.

The guest room is livable (not perfect, but it'll work for guests!)

I made curried chicken cider soup last night and put lots in the freezer for an easy meal later on. Also planning on making a batch of my spaghetti sauce later today to pop in the freezer.

My mom's favorite coffee and sweetener has been bought and is waiting in the pantry for her arrival.

That's all physical stuff, but we're also pretty ready to meet this little man. We can't wait to see who he looks like and put a face to this precious soul we've loved for so long.

Can I confess something? I feel like I'm already missing being pregnant. I'm exhausted, uncomfortable and even in pain with this kid riding so low. But I have loved being pregnant and I know I'm going to be sad to not have Si so close to me anymore. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around being a mama, and I know it's going to far exceed any expectations I have.

I'm looking forward to this weekend with Chris. Every weekend we have together, I feel like we have to savor every moment, lest it be our last just as 'us'. We're going to watch the Olympics opening ceremonies with friends on Friday night and plan on a few fun outings through the weekend. Just wish I could wear an invisibility shield on our outings so I stop getting the "You must be having twins!" comments.

  2. This whole post makes me so happy. I'm so excited for you guys!

  3. Aw, everything seems to be falling into just the right places for you and your little family! I am so thrilled for you!

Also, as far as the "twins" comments go, I'd take them as a complement! You are so very lucky to not have gained any weight anywhere but where little Silas is growing, which just means your belly looks bigger than it would on someone who gained weight throughout their entire body (a little baby in a tiny girl like you is bound to look bigger than on someone who weighs more). I'd be thrilled to look as beautiful as you do pregnant!

    1. I don't think anyone ever takes the "twins" comments as a compliment. Especially with the way most people have asked me, it's just rude. I do get what you're saying though-- my bump definitely looks bigger the way I carry!

Aw. :( Can you tell I've never been pregnant? Haha Now that I think about it, I would probably be a little offended too. I just have a hard time seeing why *any* comments would make you feel self conscious- You're a stunning woman, pregnant or not!

Just give me the rude people's names, I'll give them a little kick in the shins for you. ;)

  6. You have carried that bump quite well for the past 38 weeks!! Seriously, your adorable!! I know it probably doesn't seem like it to you, but it seems like you were just announcing your pregnancy on the blog not long ago!! I can't believe it's almost time for your little one to arrive!!

  11. You look gorgeous, love! I often miss being pregnant. Actually, I have to remind myself that my occasional baby fever is really just a desire for being pregnant and snuggles. Though I can't borrow the pregnancy, I need to make a phone call to a new-mama friend.

  12. your baby bump is soo huge. but you still look sooo good! (there are a lot of "o"'s in the last three words :) )
So bag is packed and everything is ready for babys arrival! can't wait to finally "meet" this adorible baby!

  13. You look great, L! Those comments about being huge always made me laugh! Try not to take it too hard--people are so thoughtless sometimes!

Anyhoo--enjoy your time as a twosome because your life's about to change. : ) Oh, and not to be a downer, but really enjoy foods you like right now! I am on a no dairy/soy/egg/peanut diet while breasfeeding baby Theron and miss my dairy sooooo much! Hopefully little Si won't have that allergy, but stock up in case he does!

    1. It's a Rachael Ray recipe (I ripped it out from her magazine a few years ago). You might be able to find it online! If not, let me know. I've been thinking about posting it! It's SO delicious.

  16. haha.. I know it's not what you want to hear, but I thought the same thing.. "is she SURE she isn't having twins!?" ..but of course you're sure. You are all belly though :) and the only reason the thought crossed my mind is because a friend of mine gave birth to twins this past December (see the photos here of her growing belly: http://www.jenposford.com/2012/03/twins-another-bump-story.html) and you really are carrying little Silas in a similar way.

So close now! Thanks for letting us take this journey with you.. wishing all three of you a restful last couple of weeks before he comes.

  21. Almost there! My daughter is 7 months and sometimes I swear I still feel her kicking...

  22. I totally missed not always having Jack with me after he was born and not having that closeness. I loved knowing where he was all the time and that all his needs were met. There was so much comfort and peace in that. But even now, I think back to times when I was pregnant and subconsciously think that he was there on the outside. Like, "why in the world did we bring a baby to that fancy restaurant downtown?!" Only to remember that I was just pregnant :) He's just felt like such a permanent part of my body and my life for the last 18 months. And I'm with Chantal - I still feel phantom kicks. It's crazy!

  25. I have missed being pregnant so much more than I thought I would! My daughter is 4 months old and I still miss it sometimes. I still cuddle her a lot just so I can get that close feeling again. My favorite thing is putting her in the Moby wrap or Ergo carrier and walking around with her. It still gives you that closeness without being pregnant! Haha! And like the other 2 previous posters, I still get phantom kicks!

  28. I am so excited for you guys! We have 3 weeks until our due date. It seems crazy!! We pretty much had everything ready & then our AC unit flooded the 2 rooms in our house, so we've been having to deal with a little bit of craziness around here. I totally get what you mean about missing being pregnant. It's really hard to wrap my mind around what being a mom will be like. & about the "twins" comment, I don't understand why people can't just say You look great being pregnant! Or ask "When's your due date?" I have been getting the "you look like you're about to pop" comment since week 30... It makes me so frustrated!

  29. Oh, I can't wait to 'meet' him too! Isn't it a great feeling to be all organised? It's so nice when things are ready... :) I love the print on his nursery wall... and your nappy/hospital bag! Where did you find it? What an awesome colour!

    1. Hi Rachael! The bag is from LuckyCann on Etsy. I just got it this week but I think it's going to be a great diaper bag for Si. It's so roomy with lots of pockets/organization. I would definitely suggest looking at Ann's shop if you're in the market for a new bag!

  30. I can totally understand what you mean about missing being pregnant. It's hard to even imagine not having them in your belly !
But it sure is WONDERFUL having them here to cuddle :) So excited for you!

  31. What's with the "twins" comments? Who are these nosy people, anyway?!

I would be tempted to take a pointed look at their (nonpregnant, I'm assuming) tummies and say, "When are you due?"

    But I'm kind of mean.

    1. Gah, I know! Some people don't even ask "Is it twins?" but just go "2??"

      "Um, no, one, ya doofus".

:) Trust me, there are lots of things I would love to say. I've definitely started just giving them a confused, "Are you serious?!" look... Ha.

  32. congrats! and i am so happy to know your through the bloggy world, if i was there i'd give you a BIG hug and Si too of course. I'm just so overjoyed and excited to see him too after following along for so long. Enjoy every last moment of couple time, that'll be hard to get back. But you'll have a beautiful loving and unique son soon and you'll forget about how close he is because you can snuggle him anytime you want to. good luck and hope you have an easy weekend and quick delivery. praying for you! :)

  34. How fun! I'm excited for you! I had our first baby about a year ago and now I get even more excited for people knowing what they have ahead. I do miss being pregnant but look forward to the next time. Having a baby was one of the most romantic things between my husband and I. So it makes the "us" time even sweeter after, I think! :)

  35. wow. his arrival is SO CLOSE! as you can tell, i'm just a little excited for you & Chris...ya'll are going to be the best parents Silas could ask for :)

    1. Hey Marie!

Girl, you have plenty of time before you need to think about postpartum! I only just started figuring out what I'd want/need for my recovery in the past week or so, so seriously, don't worry about it! :)

That being said, I bought some Tucks pads (medicated pads), giant maxi pads and some epsom salt for soaking my hoohaa. ;) I have no idea what my recovery will look like, but I thought that would at least be a good start to have those things on hand.

Congrats on your pregnancy! Hope all goes smoothly for you!

  38. This is so exciting! This time last year I was at 38 weeks too. When I look at my 11 month old daughter now and see her trying to walk it's just unbelievable to think that she was still baking in my belly a year ago. What a great year it's been :). How wonderful that you're savoring some quiet moments and fun times with your husband. I remember that last few days before having my baby so, so clearly. The midwife made me cry with a poem about "the last moments," but they were some of the sweetest moments I still hold onto. You look beautiful and and the joyfulness surrounding Si's arrival is evident in your pictures and words :).
