Living Room Switch-a-roo
Here we go, projects number two and three of our Labor Day weekend productivity. I finished up my wave painting and we got it hung above the couch. We also changed out our green couch slipcover for a white one and switched the furniture around just a little bit.
Here's what the art and sofa looked like up until this weekend. Lovely, but we were (okay, I was) ready for another change. It was quite the change this time.
Drum roll pleeeease...
tada!
Bright, huh? We're still getting used to the bright white couch but I gotta say, I loove it.
I'd love to get some more pattern in the couch pillows (maybe ikat??) and maybe an area rug, though Chris has yet to be convinced that it's okay to put a rug on top of carpet.
Here's a close-up of the detail on the painting. I don't think it's very clear in this picture but there are lots of different purples, blues, oranges and even some green thrown in there. I get a little jolt of happiness every time I walk around the corner and see that painting hanging there.
Chris thinks it's funny that it looks like we're about to get demolished by a monster wave when we sit on the couch.
We moved one of the LACK coffee tables out from the corner and switched it to this side of the couch. I sit on this side more often, so the lamp is more useful for reading and blogging stuff. Plus, I like the focal point it creates.
You can see a little peek of our new curtains. I'll share the deets on those next week. :)

So what do you think? Do you like the new look? Think the green couch was better? Can't imagine living with a bright white couch? If you have a white couch, I'd love any tips on keeping it sparkling (aside from covering it in a plastic sheath, haha!)
Love it! So fresh looking. White slipcovers are the way to go, much easier to keep clean and an easy way to change out a room. You will enjoy the green again when you uncover it in the future!
ReplyDeleteBesides really liking the Wave, I like the big picture for its size on the wall.
Hope a cute sailor can rescue that beautiful girl about to be smashed by the wave :0
Wow, I never would have thought that was a slip cover! It looks amazing and so bright and cheery! There's just something about the crispness of white that makes everyday start off better, I think. I'm loving it.
ReplyDeletelove it!! Still trying to convince my hub to let me get a white couch. Yours looks great and i like it much better this way - since you asked :)

ReplyDeleteI love it, so fresh and clean!!! Love your painting on the wall, very cool!! And the table on the other side looks awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it all!! I think for sure some pops of fun pillows would be awesome. Oh, and carpet on carpet...TOTALLY allowed. I really think that would look awesome too!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the white couch! It gives an instant pop of brightness, in my opinion. We purchased a white (well, offwhite, but close!) couch several months ago upon moving into our casa and it is great! First of all, it's a slipcover, so you can pull it off and wash it (I'm assuming yours is?). But I haven't even had to do that- any stains that show up (and trust me, with two big dogs, they do!) have come up! The PB sales clerk who sold the couch to us recommended not to use any cleaner, etc., but just a white washcloth (white so the color of the cloth won't bleed on your couch) with cold water. That's it! Nothing fussy, just some good hard scrubbing. And it works every time!
ReplyDeleteWhew, sorry for the long rant on couch cleaning but I really love your switcharoo! And the painting is gorgeous, of course!

ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! The white couch looks wonderful, and I love that painting more every time I see it.
ReplyDeleteA rug on top of carpet is a great idea, keep pushing it :P
I love the freshness of the white! And your art looks great on the wall!
ReplyDeleteSo... are you going to have to change your tagline now ;-)
Oh, it all looks awesome! The painting turned out great, too! The couch adds more of a pop than I thought it would! Sorry this is such an exclamation point heavy comment - I just really like the new look!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting! It does kind of look like it might eat someone up, but in a happy Pac-Man sort of way. :) The colors are great. And the white sofa? Looks good, too. Much cheerier than a green. If it gets dirty (which it will) it gets dirty. I wouldn't stress about it. Green gets dirty, too.
ReplyDeleteI like the change and I think that couch is the perfect fit for that corner. The art is awesome!! Love it all:). Great job.
ReplyDeleteWow, I love the change up! The new white slipcover looks great and I think the painting is amazing. Plus, your navy blue throw pillows are the perfect accent color.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Linds! I love the painting! But i have to know, did you match your couch and pillows on purpose? or did that just happen? :-p
ReplyDeleteI love the new look of your living room! The wave painting came out amazing and really gives the room a uplifting feeling! I'll have to stop over this week and get a peek in person. I will bet that the pictures don't do the room justice!
ReplyDeleteWe just switched our same sofa from white to bright blue, i really do miss the white and love the look of yours but after our dog decided to muddy ours up it didnt look so great :) We have the same lack table to but are thinking painting it a darker colour. Nice to see someone who loves Ikea as much as we do :)
ReplyDeleteI love the new look! Now you have to change your tag line :) Tell Chris that carpet on carpet is totally allowed.
ReplyDeleteYay!!!! I wanna go surfing. I love the new living room! (Will you have to change your blog tagline now??) And it is definitely OK to put a rug on top of carpet - it creates a separate space.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, L! I love the painting and I am a big fan of the white couch. I wish I had tips on how to keep it clean, but I failed miserably at trying to keep ours nice and sparkly and thus ended up getting rid of it! Hopefully you're better than I! : )
ReplyDeleteOh, and I think Ikat sounds delish as does a rug!

I am in love with that painting. We had a white slipcover for our sofa for about six weeks, but with three kids I was always washing it, and finally I just gave up and live with the ugly purple sofa. But my dream house has all white furniture with brightly colored painted walls.
