getting settled... sort of.
It felt like Christmas morning when the movers knocked on our door Thursday morning and started hauling boxes into our apartment. They even grabbed one of our kitchen chairs from the crates for me to sit on. That was heavenly.
So, we're getting settled physically and working on getting settled emotionally here. We've found a church that we like and bought an annual pass for a beautiful state park/beach near us. Still haven't found a coffee shop near us and praying for God to send some friends our way. Praying that we would use this year in Florida wisely-- not sure what that looks like right now, but I'm trying to use this temporary lonely time to draw near to Him and prepare for our growing family.

We've unpacked all the boxes, but that just means there are piles of stuff everywhere. It feels pretty chaotic, but I'm trying to carve out a few spaces for to rest both our eyes and our butts.
Our apartment has tons of space, but half the storage space of our house in Hawaii, so it's been quite a challenge figuring out where things go. The pantry items are in the hall closet and our bikes are in the guest closet.

looking good! I'm sure your prayers will be answered :)
ReplyDeleteI recently moved into an apartment with a great kitchen with no storage. Target has some AMAZING pieces that double as furniture (which you might have space for) and storage (which you need). Hope this helps.
ReplyDeletePraying for your continued adjustment to FL. <3
Ooh, good to know, Alyssa! Which pieces did you get from Target?
DeleteLove your heart girl, and really-- I'm right there with you. Praying God meets us in the chaos and that we make much of Him in these transitional times. Excited to see what you do with all that space in your new place!
ReplyDeleteWe have a small bookcase right outside of our kitchen as a little pantry and luckily my husband had some This End Up furniture (a small three drawer dresser and cabinet) where we were able to create a "linen closet" for our extra bedding in the guest room. Maybe either of those tips can help? I'm so glad to see you're settling in though! That's the hardest part of moving!
ReplyDeletePraying for you sister! I hope this year in Florida is full of unexpected blessings!
ReplyDeleteI know its hard to make friends in a new town. We moved 3hrs away from family 12yrs ago. I joined a local mom's group to meet new friends. You might want to look into that before Silas is here.
ReplyDeleteMan...if only you lived closer to Orlando! I'd totally come hang out and help you get the apartment set up. And gosh darn it...we'd find you a coffee shop. I'm sure you've done a search already, but I looked on Urbanspoon and there is a Mojo's Coffee Shop at 13430 Gulf Beach Hwy in Pensacola if that's near you. Free wi-fi too! :)
ReplyDeleteYour apartment is already looking so great!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize this local was just for a year...will you go back to Hawaii after that?
ooops! i meant location, not local!
DeleteFeeling unsettled like that would totally stress me out - I like to nest IMMEDIATELY when I move into a new place.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping you can get everything figured out and that you find some friends (and a coffee shop)!
Its great that you have your stuff! It takes time to get settled in, you will get there, soon! I will definitely be praying for you to meet lots of wonderful people and really find your niche!
ReplyDeleteRemember that you can use open wall space as storage space! Floating shelves and cabinets can be hung so that you can store all sorts of necessities, cookware and accents without having a cluttered look. :D
ReplyDeleteWas the state park/beach Grayton Beach, by any chance? I used to do volunteer trips there in college, so I'm curious. Also, check out Eden Gardens at some point during your year. Best wishes finding coffee and friendship.
ReplyDeleteEden Gardens is so beautiful! I could so see you doing one of your "oh baby!" shoots there!
DeleteI can only imagine how heartwarming it was to see your stuff after all this time!

ReplyDeleteYAAAAAAAY!!!! I love the feeling of being settled!
ReplyDeleteIf y'all get a spare day, you should go to Apalachicola/St. George Island! That's where I'm from and it's a sweet and close getaway.
ReplyDeleteWe go to St. George Island almost every summer! We're going in two weeks :) We love it!
DeleteIt's coming together so nicely. I hope you continue to feel more at peace all the time. I pray you settle into your new home with ease.
ReplyDeleteI have some friends in the area-be glad to ask them for suggestions!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Florida!
ReplyDeleteyour couch looks so cozy! :) keep drawing near to Him. He will never fail you!! :)
ReplyDeleteHooray!! So glad it's coming along. I wanted to let you know about www.meetup.com. It's a great avenue to meet new friends, check it out, I think you'll love it.
ReplyDeleteOh man, we are seriously in the EXACT same stages of moving. Tons of piles, half the storage... So funny that we are going through this at the same time! Haha. Your place is looking great though! Love the details girlfriend. You are so cute :)
