aloha style:: just use your imagination.

headband, button down, skinny jeans:: {forever 21}
cardigan:: {who knows, a million years old}
flower pin:: {craftee mcgee}
Saul flats:: {c/o Blowfish Shoes}

Ack, these photos bug me so much. I gave the camera to Chris on the wrong settings so everything is way blown out and overexposed. I did my best to salvage them, but they look funky to me. Oh well, I'm not the kind of blogger to not publish photos because they aren't perfect. Things get screwed up sometimes and I always do my best to be real with you guys. Just use your imagination-- my button down is a really pretty shade of lavender and my cardigan is a soft cream. Thank goodness for Picnik though.

Which is opening a whole can of worms there. I'm assuming most/all of you have heard of Picnik shutting down in April. So sad. I seriously do all my photo editing for my blog and shop on there. I feel like I need to go through and edit every single one of the photos on my computer and hard drive before April. I'm considering saving up for Photoshop since I haven't come across any comparable photo editing programs. You might be needing to use your imagination a little more once Picnik closes and my photos go back to the dark ages later this spring.

Ahem. Anyway. Today I'm finishing up some Valentine's paintings and putting those babies in the shop. I also plan on chowing down on some scrumptious homemade macnut pesto pasta for lunch and maybe even showering somewhere in there.

  4. i'm bummed about picnik, too! i wondered if there was something else that was comparable ... and i looked into the whole google picture thing and it's totally NOT the same. unless they improve it a lot! so annoyedddd.

    anyways ... haha. you look adorable as always!

  5. You're cute not matter what, no need for perfect pictures!! If you want the benefits of photoshop but not pay as much you might want to look into photoshop elements!! Also, Lightroom rocks, I use both, but for basic editing and organizing pics nothing beats Lightroom!!!

    1. Linsey-- I've heard Lightroom is great! But is it only for photo editing? Or can you do collages/graphic design stuff on it? And what about Photoshop Elements? I do all my graphics in Picnik too, so I need something that is more than just photo editing.

  7. Hi Lindsay,

    This is a close second to Picnik........ Foto Flexer - http://fotoflexer.com/ Photoshop is a bear to learn for even the simple edits. This sight looks like to might be worth checking out.

    Cute shoes!!

  8. LR is just photo editing (but super easy!). I use GIMP (free photoshop type app) and LR for all my editing. I've not used PSE (Photoshop Elements) but I've heard that those that use it love it. It's worth a look.

  9. I really love Photoshop Elements. I've had it for a few years and use it to edit my photos and create "printables". You can often find it on sale for around $50...definitely not free like Picnik, but a great deal for great software!

    1. That's awesome, MJ! I didn't realize Elements was that cheap! I think that's one of the major contenders. I'm okay with a learning curve if it's got everything I need! Thanks for the info!

  10. Lightroom is the best. Hands down, and way cheaper than Photoshop.

    1. Thanks! I've heard good things about LR. But if LR is only photo editing (and not other graphic design capabilities), then it's not really what I need. But it's on my list of possibilities!

  11. so Picasa is still there right-- that's what I'm worried about b/c I host my photos on there. But yes, I mourn Picnik too. What are they thinking?!?

    I am looking into Fotoflexer before I drop any money on anything. I heard it's pretty decent. :)

  12. Hi Linds! Just want to second two thoughts here

    1: You are adorable and that bump is so cute!

    2: Photoshop Elements is a great next step. Unless you are doing crazy bananas editing (like adding in people who aren't originally there, etc.) you don't really need the full Photoshop, and Elements has the graphic design capabilities like making collages, putting text over images, etc. I used Elements for a loooooonnng time before I upgraded to regular Photoshop.

    xoxo

  14. I think these photos look awesome. And you are looking so cute and radient!! Hopefully you are feeling well too. Oh, and I saw a blog post that described a few different options (vs. Picknick) and one that I am going to look into is http://fotoflexer.com/ Looks like it has a lot of the same features, although i am not sure if there is a cost associated....

    1. Hey Penny! Thanks so much, girl! I'll probably be writing a {what I've learned} post on the things I've learned about photography since starting my blog. I must say my photography improved tenfold after buying my DSLR (I have a Canon Rebel t3 and mostly use a 50mm f/1.8 lens). That's not to say anyone can't have great pictures with a point and shoot. Mostly the idea is to use lots of natural light and to learn how to use the light to make your pictures pretty. I rarely (pretty much never) take pictures at night for the blog. Experiment a lot with different angles and practice a lot! Let me know if you have any specific questions! I am no expert by far, but I really have enjoyed learning how to take better pictures!

  16. This is one of my favorite outfits you've worn! You look like such a cute mom!!!!! That thicker headband looks awesome with your haircut. Wear more of those! ;) And I'm still learning the basics of Photoshop. It's so tricky. I don't know what we're going to do without Picnik! If someone were to create something with the same basic, easy to use, simple layout and made people pay for it, I'd GLADLY pay for it!

  17. bummed out about picnik too! I am glad to see all of the suggestions from other readers, I will have to try elements.

    You look cute-as always!

  18. Picnik the actual site is disappearing but the actual product is just moving to Google+...Huzzah:) no need to mourn its loss. On a completely random unrelated note where on the island do you get your stash of washi tape?

    1. Kimiko-- hi! I think a lot of people are concerned that from the looks of it, Google + wont be nearly the same as Picnik and are also a bit upset that the closing of Picnik kind of "forces" them to join another social network in order to edit their pics. It sure would be nice if they transfer everything over!

      That is a very random question, but I will gladly answer! ;) I buy most of my washi tape online (on Etsy) but every now and then, I can find it at Benjamin Franklin craft stores. But it's a lot more expensive on island, so I tend to not buy it here as much.

  19. Hey friends! So, using some suggestions here and on twitter, I decided to download the free 30 day trial of Photoshop Elements to play with. Gonna see if I can learn this thing. It's under $100 (totally worth it to me if it does what I need!) and I've heard that it not only does photo editing but graphics stuff too. I'll be sure to let you know how I like it!

  20. Pixlr.com is worth a try. I use Elements but Pixlr is really great! (and free...gotta love that!)

  21. Have you tried Picasa by Google? Pretty simple editing and uploading to online storage. My personal favorite is Gimp (followed by Paint.net). Those are all free downloads, so it's worth a shot to try them and if you don't like them, just iluninstal them!! :)
